Before
After
The office offers two methods:

1. Advanced Whitening- Patients attend the office for 2 separate whitening
sessions.  The first session lasts approximately 1 hour, after which patients
whiten their teeth at home daily for 10-20 minutes for 5-7 days.  They return for
a second 1 hour session.  In the office's experience this yields dramatic results.

2. Conventional Whitening-  Patients attend a single session of about 1 hour with
the concentrated whitening gel applied to their teeth. This will usually yield a
formidable result, often getting the teeth about 4 shades whiter.
Facts about Whitening:
"Whitening Laser Lights".  The studies demonstrate that the so-called laser lights have minimal to no
effect on the outcome of whitening.

The most important factors for successful whitening are
1:  The concentration of the whitening gel
2.  The amount of time the gel remains on the teeth (called "contact time").

Over the counter products
The studies show that with very few exceptions all commercial whitening products provide minimal to
no appreciable effect
because:
1)
Rinses and toothpastes usually have very low concentration of whitening ingredients and
2)
They contact the teeth for a very short time (on the order of 1-2 minutes).

Commercial strips
have been demonstrated to get an appreciable effect because :
1) T
hey  remain on the teeth for a prolonged period,
2)  T
hey have a relatively higher concentration of whitening ingredient .

After whitening
After undergoing a whitening procedure to get the best results in maintaining it is important to touch up
the teeth, either with bleaching trays or a product like CREST WHITE STRIPS or AquaFresh strips.
After completing whitening in the office, these devices can be used for touch up purposes for as little
as 10 minutes at a time.  Patients can also do this at their own personal frequency (i.e. once per day,
every other day, once per week, etc).  Patients should be cautious not to excessively whiten their teeth
and should consult with the office before doing anything on th
eir own.
